ScrollWhy it matters
A more trusted way to access digital services.
As Ghana’s digital economy grows, more of everyday life moves online: banking, public services, work, education. Each of those needs a dependable answer to one question: is this really you?
These are the challenges a digital identity platform is designed to address. DigiD Ghana is being built to help with them, and we make no claims about how large they are today.
- 01
Repeated identity checks across services
People can be asked to prove who they are again and again, in a different way for every service.
- 02
Fraudulent access and impersonation
A weak or shared sign-in makes it easier for someone to pretend to be somebody else.
- 03
Fragmented digital experiences
Every service builds its own sign-in, so people keep many logins and organisations carry the cost.
- 04
Difficult integration between digital services
Without shared standards, connecting a service to a sign-in system can be slow and expensive.
- 05
The need for privacy-conscious verification
Identity checks should reveal no more about a person than a service actually needs.
How DigiD Ghana works
Four steps from a website to a secure sign-in.
A simple, explicit journey that always puts the user’s approval at the centre.
- 1
Start with a trusted service
The person visits a participating website and chooses to sign in with DigiD Ghana.
a participating websiteWelcome backSign in to continueLog in with DigiD GhanaOr use your password - 2
Connect with the app
The person opens the DigiD Ghana mobile app and obtains the verification code needed for the login process.
- 3
Verify and approve
The person enters the code on the website, scans the generated QR code in the app and explicitly approves the login.
- 4
Continue securely
The participating website receives the authentication result through the established secure integration and grants access according to its own authorisation rules.
The verification code alone never signs anyone in. It only tells the website which phone to ask. The login is completed when the person scans the QR code and approves it in the app. The phone screens are real screenshots of the DigiD Ghana test version, with invented data; the website in step 1 is a drawing. Working in testing This journey works in our testing environment today.

Built for Ghana
Built with Ghana in mind. Ready for digital opportunity.
Identity infrastructure works best when it reflects the context it serves: Ghana’s digital services, the needs of people who use them, and the requirements of the organisations that run them. DigiD Ghana is being designed with that context in view.
It is a sign-in platform. It is not an official national identity register, and it does not replace the Ghana Card.

Security and privacy
Security must be built in, not added later.
The principles behind DigiD Ghana, in plain language. Each one is marked with how far it has got.
Explicit approval of every login
A login is approved on your own phone, with your PIN code or, if you choose, Face ID or a fingerprint. A website cannot approve it for you.
Working in testingShort-lived authentication challenges
Each login attempt expires after a few minutes and can be used once.
Working in testingProtection against replay and unauthorised access
Approvals are signed with a key that stays on the phone, and attempts to guess a verification code are limited.
Working in testingVerification of authentication results
Participating websites validate the signed result they receive before they let anyone in.
Working in testingAccess controls and auditability
Our own staff sign in with a second factor, and sensitive actions are recorded in a tamper-evident audit trail.
Working in testingPrivacy-conscious data handling
Biometrics never leave the phone, and a website receives only what you approve. Different websites cannot link your logins together.
Working in testingSecurity review before production
Every partner is reviewed before it goes live. An independent security test is planned before any public launch.

Questions
Frequently asked questions.
Short, honest answers about what DigiD Ghana is and is not.
What is DigiD Ghana?
DigiD Ghana is a digital identity and secure sign-in platform that M&S Digital Solutions is developing. It is designed so that a person can log in to participating websites by approving the request on their own phone, without a password.
It is coming soon: it is in development and not yet open to the public.
Who can use it?
Today only the team building DigiD Ghana and invited testing partners use it, with invented people. It is not open to the public yet. When it opens, it is intended for individuals, businesses and public institutions that use or run participating digital services.
How does the mobile app work?
You install the DigiD Ghana app and choose a PIN code. Your phone keeps a secret key that never leaves it. When you log in to a participating website, the app shows which website is asking, and you approve with your PIN code (or with Face ID or a fingerprint, if you turn that on). Your face or fingerprint is checked by the phone itself: the app never sees it.
How does website login work?
On the participating website you choose DigiD Ghana. In the app you get a short verification code and type it on the website. The website then shows a QR code, which you scan with the app. The app shows the name of the website, and you approve. The website receives the result and decides what you may do. If you are logging in on the same phone, you can open the app directly instead.
What is a verification code?
A short code that the app shows you. Typing it on the website tells the website which phone to ask. It works for a few minutes and then stops. The code on its own never logs you in: you still scan the QR code and approve in the app. It is not your PIN code, and nobody from DigiD Ghana will ever ask you for either.
Why do I need to scan a QR code?
The QR code ties your approval to the exact login you started. It lets your phone confirm that the request on the website and the request in the app are the same one, so a login cannot be approved for you by someone else.
How can a business integrate?
An organisation talks to us about its use case, registers, builds and tests against the sandbox (where every person is invented), completes a security review, and goes live only once approved. Registering does not by itself give access to production. See For Businesses and Partner Portal.
Does DigiD Ghana replace the Ghana Card?
No. DigiD Ghana is not a national identity register and does not replace the Ghana Card or any other official document. It is a separate sign-in service.
Is the platform officially operated by the Ghanaian government?
No. DigiD Ghana is developed and operated by M&S Digital Solutions. It is not a government service, it is not endorsed by the Government of Ghana, and it is not approved by or connected to the National Identification Authority (NIA).
How is personal information handled?
Browsing this website collects no personal information: no cookies and no analytics. The contact form sends your name, email address and message to our team so that we can reply. DigiD Ghana is in development and is used with invented people only. The design keeps your biometrics on your phone, and a website you log in to receives only what you approve. Read the full privacy notice.
What should a user do if login fails?
Check that the website name in the app is the one you are on, that the verification code was typed exactly as shown, and that your phone is online. Codes expire after a few minutes, so start again from the website if time has passed. If you did not start the login, choose Cancel and approve nothing. Still stuck? Email info@digidghana.com.
